Mermaids of Denmark

Mermaids of Denmark

“The Little Mermaid” Sculpture is based on the fairytale of the same name written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen and it would appear that the whole country (or at least Copenhagen) has fallen in love with Mermaids and have various statues around the town to showcase this mermaid.

Rome, Italy – the Palatine Hill

The Palatine Hill overlooks the Roman Colosseum and the site of the ancient Roman Forum and was a very important residential area in the height of the Roman Empire. A walk through the ruins of the Palatine Hill is an interesting and convenient extension for any tourist visiting the Colosseum. Excavation of the site continues and can impact on one’s chosen route as a number of the vias are blocked off for further archeological exploration work. No worse than trying to get around any number of road construction projects in a modern city :-).

Amsterdam

Amsterdam

Amsterdam was our first city on the Contiki – European Inspiration Tour. The city with the Red Light District and Painted Elephant Statues…

Canals everywhere, feels a lot like home (Ottawa’s Rideau Canal).

There were a lot of bikes as well, the city is almost littered with them (in a good way).

Amsterdam also boasts the Van Gogh Museum, my primary reason for visiting this city. It’s a great museum except that no cameras are allowed inside so this a short blog entry.
