The first day in Punta Cana was arrival day so I spent the day flying, arriving, checking in, unpacking, finding the restaurants, and wandering along the beach.
Lying around on a beach all day is not my style – I prefer wandering around with a 300mm lens and photographing wildlife. Walking up and down a beach with a 300mm lens among bikini-clad sun worshippers can get me into more trouble than looking for wildlife so I tend to look for wildlife when carrying the 300mm. Graeme and I decided that Dominican Republic would be an interesting place to visit. So we shopped around and found that Sunwing was offering a discounted ticket for an all-inclusive stay at the Bavaro Princess so, as the plane arrived to whisk us away, we were thinking warmth and sunny beaches. (Ottawa +2C, Punta Cana +30C)
I was down for a simple get-away week to relax and just have some fun (Location).
Of note: a hurricane hit the other half of the island while I was there so the weather was great for photography, less so for ocean and beach fun (I didn’t mind). I took my Nikon D80 and a Canon Digital P&S which I had borrowed from my brother:
