New England Trip 2012 – Day 6 – Mystic, Connecticut – Mystic Seaport and Maritime Village

New England Trip 2012 – Day 6 – Mystic, Connecticut – Mystic Seaport and Maritime Village

It turns out that when we arrived at the Olde Mistic Village Shopping Mall, we initially thought that we were at the historic Mystic Seaport and Maritime Village. One is a shopping mall disguised as a village while the other is a multi-faceted maritime museum and historical site.

New England Trip 2012 – Day 6 – Olde Mistik Village Shopping Mall

We were beginning to worry about running out of daylight by the time that we crossed the Mystic River and arrived at the Olde Mistik Village Shopping Mall near the village of Mystic, Connecticut. Not out of shopping time though :-).

New England Trip 2012 – Day 6 – New London, Connecticut

New England Trip 2012 – Day 6 – New London, Connecticut

We had started out the morning with a visit to Essex, CT, followed that with a quick visit back to Old Saybrook where we had stayed the night before and then we headed back out on the road again heading toward the Connecticut/Rhode Island border. Most the time when I am traveling, I try to stick to the less traveled country roads and avoid the interstates so that I can more easily pull off to the side of the road when I see something that I want to photograph. The only drawback to that approach is the lower speed limits and the potential of getting caught up in local traffic.

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Clinton, Connecticut

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Clinton, Connecticut (Clinton Crossing Outlet Mall)

After four days of driving on mostly secondary roads through the Adirondacks and Vermont, I had to readjust to the joy of Interstate Highways and driving in more densely populated areas. After visiting Castle Craig in the morning, we headed to New Haven, Connecticut Lighthouse Point area on the Atlantic Ocean.

The weather was a bit too cool for tipping a toe in the water and that would probably explain the lack of people on the beach. A few fishermen had there lines in the water but not much else was happening in this beach area.  Even the sea gulls were limited in numbers.

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Castle Craig and Meriden, Connecticut

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Castle Craig and Meriden, Connecticut

The night before, as the sun dropped below the horizon o, or at least behind the trees, we decided to pull off the highway and stay the night in Meriden, Connecticut.

The next morning we went looking for the road that lead to Castle Craig. ON our map that seemed like it would be a simple task but twice we managed to drive past the junction that we were looking for. I guess that I was looking for a slightly wider roadway :-).
