A visit to the United Nations

The exhibits on the main floor are open to the public and there is no admission charge to view those exhibits.  Likewise, admission to the gift shops and post office on the lower level are open to the public.  Visiting other areas of the United Nations complex can only be done as part of a tour.  Photography is permitted on the tours but no flash. Due to low light conditions, photographing some of the exhibits is pretty tough to do. Some of the exhibits that are on display and part of the tour include a memorial Buddhist Stupa from Thailand, a wall image from the Ukraine, examples of land mines and grenades, and an exhibit showing the destructive power of an atomic blast. Exhibits also highlight some of the UN programs such as providing a “School in a Box” program, emergency shelters, and insecticide-treated mosquito netting to reduce incidences of malaria.
