What, you may ask could a reporter from “The SUN” be asking a man wearing a Speedo bathing suit, with a red maple leaf flag draped over his shoulders, just after this draped individual (Speedo Steve) emerged from a brisk dip in ice cold water through a hole cut out of the ice on the Ottawa River. I have no ideas. Probably only Steve and the reporter will ever know!

Meanwhile, the safety guy was checking to see if Steve had left anything behind :-).

After Steve and the first ice-breakers made their splash, there was another series of announcements with respect to the best costume, the most successful fund raiser, the estimated total pledges (over $45,000). Gave me a bit of time to photograph the photographers across the opening from where I as standing. Then I turned and photographed a few of the spectators behind me and beside me.

With the parkas on, it was sometimes tough to tell who would be making the plunge, but, in other cases, it was much more obvious.
