Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Syracuse, NY

The headless twosome.

The amorous twosome.

The special animal at this zoo was Thorold’s White-lipped Deer (Cervus albirostris) from the higher elevations of Tibet. They were looking a bit bedraggled at this time of the year as they shed their winter coats and began to grow in their summer coats.

As with most zoos, raptors are kept in smaller cages and this was also the case at this zoo. Awfully diffucult to replicate teh space needed for such birds to fly freely soar overhead.

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)

Keeping the tortoise under control is much easier to do (I think so, but have never tried!)

Ruddy Duck (Oxyura jamaicensis)

Tundra Whistling Swan (Cygnus columbrianus) having a bath.
