From the parking lot, there is an elevator that whisks tourists to the summit or you can choose to use a stairway and trail. On this particular day, the staircase was deemed to be too dangerous and was closed.
It was surprisingly cool at the summit so we were happy that we had brought jackets.
Although I never had any fear of falling over the edge, it was still a long ways to fall if one wanted to fall.
After wandering around a bit at the summit (carefully wandering), we looked back, could just barely see the main building and decided that it might be best to leave sightseeing for another day.
Back down at the parking lot, the visibility was no better and we headed back down the steep roads with a foot on the brake until we got to clearer air.
On our way back to town, we passed by the site of the Olympic ski jumping towers and watched as the clouds cleared away as nightfall approached.
Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks – an interesting place to visit and probably easy to have better viewing conditions than we encountered.
