New England trip 2012 – Day 1 – Ogdensburg, NY
Our original plan for this period of time was to fly to Vancouver and then borrow my brother’s car for a trip along the west coast down to the Los Angeles area. We changed or minds when we looked at the long range forecast for our intended route. It looked like we might encounter three or four days of nasty weather along the west coast, so we decided instead to visit the New England states and enjoy the many colours of the Fall foliage.
We planned on leaving early in the morning and traveling straight south but, one thing led to another and we ended up leaving rather late in the day so our first day of travel was a rather short one and we arrived in Ogdensburg, NYÂ just in time to enjoy the evening light along the banks of the St. Lawrence River.
We had driven past the Stonefence Resort on many occasions but never stayed there. On our normal outgoing trips, it was usually too early in the day to stop, and, on return trips, it was too close to Ottawa and we would drive the extra distance to home rather than stopping. This time around though, with our late departure form Ottawa, it seemed like the perfect spot for our needs. As is normal for this time of the year, the “Vacancy” sign was still out so we quickly completed the paperwork to get registered and I headed to the docks with my camera to get a few shots as the light quickly diminished.
As I stood at the end of the dock, a few Canada Geese paddled away from me and a few gulls flew by. The river was mirror-like save for a few waves from the passing tanker. The quiet was wonderful!
Day one turned out just fine. A nice way to start a trip.
