New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Clinton, Connecticut

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Clinton, Connecticut (Clinton Crossing Outlet Mall)

After four days of driving on mostly secondary roads through the Adirondacks and Vermont, I had to readjust to the joy of Interstate Highways and driving in more densely populated areas. After visiting Castle Craig in the morning, we headed to New Haven, Connecticut Lighthouse Point area on the Atlantic Ocean.

The weather was a bit too cool for tipping a toe in the water and that would probably explain the lack of people on the beach. A few fishermen had there lines in the water but not much else was happening in this beach area.  Even the sea gulls were limited in numbers. Continue reading

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Castle Craig and Meriden, Connecticut

New England Trip 2012 – Day 5 – Castle Craig and Meriden, Connecticut

The night before, as the sun dropped below the horizon o, or at least behind the trees, we decided to pull off the highway and stay the night in Meriden, Connecticut.

The next morning we went looking for the road that lead to Castle Craig. ON our map that seemed like it would be a simple task but twice we managed to drive past the junction that we were looking for. I guess that I was looking for a slightly wider roadway :-). Continue reading

After doing a bit of sightseeing in Wilmington VT, we headed on our way along Vermont Route #9 toward Brattleboro VT.  A pull-off area at the end of a nice climb provides a wonderful view to the south. Maple syrup ice cream was also on sale at this location so we had to have a bit of ice cream before continuing to Brattleboro.

New England Trip 2012 – Day 3 – Champlain Canal & Buskirk’s Covered Bridge

New England Trip 2012 – Day 3 – Champlain Canal & Buskirk’s Covered Bridge

After visiting the Saratoga National Historic Park, we continued our southward travels through the rolling hills of the region. The rain continued to fall as did the colorful leaves.  Occasionally, a gust of wind would unleash a blizzard-like effect as hundreds of colorful leaves would float across our path and land on the windshield of our car. Very interesting effect and very colorful!

New England Trip 2012 – Day 3 – Saratoga National Historical Park

Although it had been raining quite heavily when I stopped in Schuylerville to photograph that village’s decorative horse statues and bicycle racks, conditions had improved a bit by the time that we reached the Saratoga National Historic Park and drove through the winding road on our way to the park headquarters and interpretive center.
