Wawa, Ontario Tourist Points of Interest – Government Dock Beach

It was a dreary day when we arrived at Government Dock Beach (location) but, at least, the rain had stopped and the winds had subsided a bit. Lake Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes and, from Government Dock Beach, you can stand and look westward for as far as the eye can see and all you can see is Lake Superior.

When the wind is up and the waves are crashing ashore, it is easy to close one’s eyes and imagine that you are standing on the shores of one of the much larger oceans of the world. Today, was such a day as wave after wave of cold, cold water arrived ashore to grind the pebbly beach into ever finer grains of sand.

For Lake Superior stormy days, today was a relatively calm day but, standing on the rocks with camera in hand like I was, I still had to be careful or I might find myself being quickly sucked back out by one of those crashing waves.

Even during the short period of time that we were at the Government Dock Beach, the ferocity of the storm noticeably weakened as did the height of the waves.  That was a good sign.  We had plenty more points of interest that we wanted to visit before darkness arrived.
