Breeding Bird Survey 2012 – The Shoals

 Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly

In addition to the Bunchberries and Labrador Tea flowering along the fringes of the forest floor, there were a number of other flowers blooming in the more open areas along the roadsides. I was intrigued by the many Hummingbird Moths that were in the area this year.  We saw none the previous two years.

Although we heard quite a few bird species, there were only a few occasions when the birds were close enough to photograph.  One such instance involved a pair of White-throated Sparrows (Zonotrichia albicollis) which, based on their antics, likely had a nest nearby.

After four hours or so of driving .8 km and then stopping, and driving .8 km and then stopping, another survey of the Shoals route was completed and it was time to head back to our campsite at The Shoals Provincial Park, pack up our gear again and head off to White River where we would be staying in a motel for the night.
