Breeding Bird Survey 2012 – Dubreuilville, Ontario route

At some locations, such as this spot along the river, stopping in a safe manner is pretty tough, so I get to drop off Gerhard farther down the road and let him walk up to where I can safely park the car on the side of the road. At the end of the day, Gerhard sometimes wonders why he is tired, but hiking a kilometer uphill a few times on this route helps him to develop an appetite :-). I, in the meantime, have some time to pull out the camera and take a few photos of the scenery while waiting for him to catch up to me!

The forest along this road is a mixture of deciduous trees and conifers and, this year, since Spring weather had arrived early and we were doing the survey about a week later than last year the amount of deciduous leafage was significantly higher making it even more difficult to get a sighting of the birds that were singing loudly.

One of our survey stops is near to the Dubreuiville dump, a great location for seeing plenty of ravens and sometimes an eagle or two. This year we had to get past the dump’s watchman!

The weather had cooperated for today’s survey route and, right on schedule, we stopped for lunch in Dubreuiville and then began the rather long journey back to Ottawa.
