A bit farther along on the course, the folks at the first aid station were providing a choice – one stick 🙂 or two 🙂 :-).
Â
I still didn’t need one of their sticks so made the turn onto Beechwood and kept on walking.
It wasn’t far around the corner to where a young boy was standing at the front with a large bucket of oranges. I took his picture but unfortunately didn’t have my settings adjusted correctly. The bucket seemed bigger than he was.
The 3:30 rabbit ears finally caught up to me and soon disappeared from sight but I was pretty near to reaching my car so didn’t feel too badly that they didn’t wait for me to get up to pace :-).
The seat might have been a bit hard for this policeman but it sure beat standing in the middle of the road and getting trampled by hundreds of runners :-). The police had their hands full keeping cars and people on bikes out of the designated running area and seemed to have things well in hand.
Â
As officers directed traffic and tired runners hoped the cars would move soon enough, I couldn’t help but smile at the sign above this scene as I took a last shot or two before heading home to edit and upload all these 2012 Ottawa Marathon images.
Sure glad I couldn’t stay around to help with the cleanup :-).
I photographed runners intermittently until the arrival of about the 3:30 pace group. I missed a few runners and had a few out of focus shots but otherwise, the images in this blog are more or less in chronological order and taken between the 32nd and 35th km points in the course. Hope everyone had a personal best!

No pics of the band?
Thought you might have at least one.
Great pics.

Rob:
Checked after sending you the e-mail. Hangovers made it to page 6 :-). I think that a parting shot before I was heading back to the car will be on page 8 or 9 once those pages become publicly visible. Still editing and adding. Enjoyed your music.

Thank you for taking these great pictures of the Ottawa Marathon. You did a good job capturing the effort being made by the runners.
I take my camera along when I do these races, but I am trying to limit most of my picture-taking to “before” and “after” the race, since stopping during a long run can really break your rhythm. The pictures, most with captions, of running in Ottawa and from various races are on my Flickr website.
Love your fountain relief shots.
