NCC Greenbelt Trail 52

Clematis

During the winter, NCC trail #52 is well used as a cross country ski trail. Messages on the bark of this Paper birch attest to that popularity.

The trail itself reaches a low ridge overlooking corn fields and then loops back to the open area where a gravel trail travels around a central hill.

At the far end of this open loop a continuation of the trail heads back into the woods across a boardwalk and presents a number of directional options. Not sure how far the trail to the right goes so I walked along to the right for a short distance and then chose to loop back and around to the ravel path again on my way back to the parking area. On a previous visit to this open area, I had photographed a Shrike and some other walkers mentioned that they had seen a Coyote only moments earlier but for me, the wildlife stayed out of sight on this visit save for a few Chickadees who swooped down to eat a few sunflower seeds from my outstretched hand.
