Day 1 – Carleton University’s Annual Butterfly Show, October 1-10, 2011

Ed Bruggink, the manager of the greenhouse, is very fond of hibiscus flowers and some other exotic flowers such as Butterfly Ginger, so each time that I visit the greenhouses, I enjoy photographing the flowers while awaiting the next butterfly opportunity.

Many of the species of butterflies will come to a piece of freshly cut orange to sip a bit of the juice. Fun to watch the ever-so-gentle pass over of a slice of orange from person to person.

Earlier in the blog, I mentioned that Ed had a more than passing interest in the Hibiscus. This is one of his own hybrid successes, a beautiful multi-tone beauty.

Today’s post provides a visual glimpse at some of the things that I saw and photographed on the first day of Carleton University’s 12th Annual Butterfly Show. For more details with respect to location, times, etc. please see my previous post.
