The largest building on the Fort Niagara site is referred to as “The Castle”. Built by the French in 1726 and occupied by French, British and Americans at various times over its almost 300 year existence.
During the period of the French and Indian War, Fort Niagara fell under the control of the British and the British held the fort from 1759 – 1796
