Turns out that the Subaru’s exhaust system had broken away from one of its hangers. As luck would have it, we pulled off the highway and found our way to Sterling Motorwerks. Within minutes, they had freed up hoist space for our Subaru, welded the exhaust pipe back onto the hanger and sent us on our way.
I think that I volunteered to take the red job in the adjoining bay out for a spin but it had its own problems and wasn’t in the ‘loaner’ program :-). Thanks Mike and Scott for your quick turnaround service. Made it home okay.
Once we had the muffler securely pointing in the correct direction, we headed back out again along the highway. The wind was really gusting. I didn’t realize quite how hard it was blowing until we arrived at the bridge crossing over a narrow point of Lake Champlain and saw the white caps and bobbing ice chunks passing by.
Crossing this bridge over Lake Champlain in the wind was nothing though, compared to the wait atop the bridge that crosses the St. Lawrence into Cornwall, Ontario. Traffic was bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go, from the US side of the bridge all the way over to the Canadian side of the bridge. With all of the news focused on earthquakes in Japan and the possibility of earthquakes along the St. Lawrence River (albeit very slight), being stopped atop an aging bridge high above the St. Lawrence River, with a strong wind blowing, was really not the place that I wanted to spend a lot of time. Options were rather limited though!
We did finally escape from the bridge line-up, clear Canada Customs without trouble, and got home safely once more and with time to relax before it was time for the SuperMoon Night.
