Christmas Lights 2010 – Upper Canada Village, Morrisburg, Ontario
My wife and I traveled down to Upper Canada Village near Morrisburg, Ontario for the opening night (November 27th) of the Alight At Night Festival at Upper Canada Village. (LOCATION) No snow on the ground yet but I am sure that that will arrive any day now. Temperature was about -3C and only a light breeze was blowing, so wandering around the well illuminated streets made for a pleasant evening.
While my wife enjoyed singing Christmas carols in the beautifully decorated church, I continued to wander around outside photographing the many lights that were everywhere.
In addition to just walking around the streets of the village, one can also ride on a wagon or in a horse drawn carriage. In the following photo, I quickly rushed to set up the tripod to catch the lights of the moving horse drawn wagon as it jingled past me on one of the streets.
Inside the Crysler Hall, the judging for the 2nd annual Gingerbread competition had been completed and the winners were about to be announced, so my wife went inside again while I took a few more pictures outside before entering the building to photograph some of the many entries in this interesting competition ( Gingerbread post here).
Although Upper Canada Village is only a bit more than an hour’s drive from Kanata, Ontario, where I live, we decided to stay overnight in Morrisburg rather than worrying about driving home after visiting the Upper Canada Village display. This eliminated any driving or weather concerns so we could stay later and worry less. We chose to stay at the Russell Manor B&B on First Street in Morrisburg where we were greeted by Michael, fed breakfast prepared by Ron and met an extremely well-behaved standard poodle named Ralph. All-in-all a very pleasant way to spend a weekend away from home.
Another of my blog entries that is popular at this time of the year is: Toronto Christmas lights
Another set of images from this evening at Upper Canada Village is here: Additional Alight at Night images
And yet another series of images from another visit on Dec 18, 2010.

Fantastic pictures 🙂 I hope to take my mom to this again when she’s here over Christmas 🙂
I’ve only missed one year since it started 10 years ago – when it was just a toonie to enter… I know Ron & Michael too… I look forward to seeing the lights on Dec. 11th and I travel each year from down towards Toronto.
Beautiful pic’s~~little disappointed we didn’t see one of Willard’s Hotel ~~perhaps another time!
Doris: My understanding that Willard’s will be open for meals on December 3rd. Wasn’t open when we were there.
Ron, thanks for sharing. We will go there this weekend. Btw, you have such a good collection here and I will come to visit often.
