In photography, there is a saying “If you see red, shoot it!” With that in mind, it still amazes me that anyone in their right mind would march around in bright red and survive a day on a battlefield. I’m assuming that regardless of how white the French outfits might have been at the beginning of a battle, the combination of smoke and black powder and mud would soon make those uniforms a bit less visible.
