Unfurling fern – The woods were awash with unfurling ferns and I was surrounded by them as I stopped for a moment to capture the moment.
Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) – Tree Swallows were using a number of man-made nesting boxes set out along one shoreline. Nesting data was being gathered from these locations.
The marsh itself has a nice series of boardwalks to allow access out into the marsh for a better look at some of the birds that frequent the wetter areas. The visitor centre is on a bit of a peninsula dividing the marsh in two with separate boardwalks for each half of the marsh. A walking path goes around the perimeter of the marsh. The St.Lawrence River is just the other side of the tree line in the distance.
Swamp Sparrow (Melospiza georgiana) – A medium sized North American sparrow which skirts along the edge of marshes and streams searching for insects to eat. It tends to be secretive and tough to photograph so I was very happy when this little bird came across in front of the reeds while I was waiting patiently for a Virginia Rail to reappear from behind the reeds just behind this sparrow. Never did get a photo of the Rail.
Yellow Warbler (Dendroica petechia)
