New England Trip 2012 – Day 2 – Colton, NY
As we headed south after a short tour of SUNY Canton, we made a short stop in the town of Colton, NY to photograph some of the interesting buildings that were there.
The Hepburn Library was one of seven public libraries funded in the area by A. Barton Hepburn. It would be hard to miss this beautiful stone building so prominently located on a Main Street corner just a short distance from the building housing the Colton Museum.
At this time of the year the Colton Museum is closed much of the time and the Colton library was also closed until later in the day so we weren’t able to see the inside of either building but since the library was erected in 1912, I expect that its interior is photo worthy.
Another interesting building on Main Street was the Zion Episcopal Church across the street from Ye Olde Eatery.
A memorial to war veterans is located at the corner of the library property. Click on the individual plaques to view their larger versions.
The building across the street from the library was the home of the High Falls Mason Lodge 428
Having stopped for our stretch and a few more photos of the area, we were off again on our southerly travels.
