American Bald Eagle, Adirondack Mountains, New York State, USA

This week, I once again traveled to the Adirondacks to try and snow-shoe to the peak of Mt. Marcy. As I was driving along, minding my own business, this Bald Eagle just happened to come into view sitting in an old tree close to the highway and caught my attention. Of course, I had to stop! I sometimes wonder why it takes me longer to get some places than the distance and speed limit might suggest. This time, blame this eagle! 🙂

Shooting info: Background was heavy overcast with light snow falling. I was north of the bird so any light getting through the overcast was coming from behind the bird. Original shot was overexposed in camera at +.7EV and then I adjusted further in PP. In shots like this, I was concerned that I would blow the highlights of the bird’s head feathers if I compensated any further in-camera so thanks to RAW I was able to adjust afterwards.
