New York City, NY

First time in New York City, NY.

We were a day late due to a vicious snow storm that swept across Ontario the day before, but we were here and, like all tourists, heading for the Empire State Building. Everything is big and tall in NYC even the advertising! Large overwhelming billboards are everywhere and advertising just about everything.

I always seemed to be asking people where the closest subway station was. Didn’t realize that the “SUBWAY” signs in these pictures were the signs for the subway entrances. I thought the signs were advertising Subway sandwich outlets like we have in Canada. Duh!

The view from the Empire State Building was pretty spectacular and we were lucky enough to get a bit of blue sky and sunshine. Some people probably thought that I was a bit crazy putting on my little Nikon 10.5mm fisheye lens to take the big picture and then switching to my much bigger lens to photograph pigeons but I’m happy that I did.

After going up to the viewing level of the Empire State Building, we wandered around at street level taking in the sights and sounds until we ended up back in the vicinity of Times Square to see all the lights and billboards lighting up the night.

At night the lights are bright and the traffic is heavy in the areas of Broadway Avenue and Times Square.

And the yellow cabs that NYC is famous for are overly abundant. It’s hard to complain about the meter ticking when you are sitting in a traffic jam surrounded by yellow cabs! We found that at times walking works a lot better.
